Insomniac: Do you acknowledge the hypocrisy of Hip Hop? So many people claim they love the old school, they love the forefathers, however, they’re not doing anything to keep those virtues that Hip Hop was born from.
Bam: I know for a fact that there has been secret and hidden agendas. Money has become the god for the Hip Hop people. They’d sell their souls for money. I notice the people who don’t make money their god keep more of the culture alive… Those are the ones I look at as truly keeping the true culture of Hip …

ECID-ECONOMY SIZE goDD COSTUME FILL IN THE BREAKS
![]()
If you’re like me, you find the rap scene today to be pretty grim. We’re inundated with “artists” that exemplify the epitome of the proverbial “perpetual fountain of non-sense.” I’ve found myself many times asking the question, “what happened to the days when hip-hop was real; when it was about the lyrics and not the “ice”, “loot” and any other non realistic terms? Then I come across an album like Ecid “Economy Size goDD Costume”. Ecid is a Minneapolis-based hip-hop genius …

Over 15 years ago, the groundbreaking act Born Jamericans made their debut Kids from Foreign on Cali imprint Delicious Vinyl. Following this effort up with Yardcore, the group’s eclectic fusion of hip hop and dancehall was a bit before it’s time. But never-the-less, the duo made their mark on fans through out the world — for they brought elements of dancehall culture to the mainstream.
Edley Shine rose to fame as the larger-than-life DJ whose trademark bass heavy voice ripped through infinite hits like “Boom Shak a-Tack,” “Warning Sign,” “Cease and Seckle” and many others. …

5 Minutes with Prodigy (Mobb Deep)- Live from the Belly of the Beast
Posted in: Interviews | Leave a Comment

Although Mobb Deep’s front man Prodigy is doing a 3 and 1/2 year bid, he is riding comfortably on the Billboard charts. Hard core lyrics and dope beats are quintessential trademarks of the two-man crew known as Mobb Deep. In “H.N.I.C. 2,” Prodigy does not disappoint with this new solo album.
Even though he is under the 24/7 supervision of the judicial system, he was still able to reach out to me. Prodigy talks about his recent success on the Billboard charts, blogging behind bars and the need for rappers to protect themselves against racial …

Radiohead and the Digital Single Package Further Usher in The New Music Economy
Posted in: News | 3 Comments

Here’s another event noting the end of mass media, as we know it. Radiohead recently made individual tracks from their song “Nude” available for download on iTunes. These tracks consist of various components of the song: vocals, bass, guitars, effects, and drums. Digital downloads of the five individual tracks which make up “Nude,” and the actual song itself, were made available as a digital package for $5.99. Fans were encouraged to download the tracks and create their own remix of “Nude” using software such as Garageband. The combined sale of these stems, as they are called on …

IVENS-SOUNDS TO EXPIRE TO OBESE RECORDS
This review, along with all my others, are obviously geared towards certain types of Hip Hop fans. The type of fans that ignore the commercially saturated radio waves and so called video channels. The type of fans who are willing to take a chance on what some might not consider conventional. Nasty Nas (better known as Nas), released an album that claimed that Hip Hop was dead. And although some might think this is true, Ivens’ “Sounds to Expire To” proves the contrary. This seminal …
